Corporate Responsibility Policy Statement

State Street's strong commitment to social and environmental responsibility and our belief in giving back to the communities in which we live and work are critical to our long-term success. We recognize that sustainable growth comes from operating with absolute integrity and in a way that respects our shareholders, clients, employees, communities and the environment. We are committed to the principles of sound governance and to helping our clients succeed. We are dedicated to ensuring a global and inclusive workplace where employees feel valued and engaged. We believe we have a responsibility to enrich our communities, and to be a leader in environmental sustainability, both in the way we carry out our operations and in the products and services we offer.

Human Rights Statement

State Street Corporation is committed to providing a work environment that emphasizes respect for the dignity of all our employees. We maintain policies designed to comply with local laws concerning employment and individuals' rights in every country in which we operate. Our commitment to an inclusive, safe and ethical workplace is included within the provisions of our Employee Standard of Conduct and across our human resources policies. We do not tolerate corruption, discrimination, harassment, or forced or child labor in any form. We support fundamental principles of human rights, such as those adopted in the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We believe that upholding these principles is an important component of our culture and values.

Corporate Environmental Sustainability Policy Statement

State Street is committed to being a leader in environmental sustainability, both in the way we carry out our operations and in the products and services we offer. Environmental sustainability at State Street means conducting our business in a manner that acknowledges, measures and takes responsibility for our direct and indirect impact on the environment. This means that we will conserve energy, dispose of waste responsibly, and reduce pollutants and other byproducts our activities may generate. It requires that we abide by all relevant laws and regulations, and seek continued improvement in reducing our environmental impact. By conducting our business in this manner, we align our long-term success with the earth's ecological well-being and create enduring benefits for our shareholders, clients, employees, and the communities in which we live and work.

Corporate Climate Change Statement

State Street is committed to being a leader in environmental sustainability. In line with that commitment, we believe it is appropriate to recognize, evaluate and address the potential risks presented by climate change, as they may relate to the operation of our business and affect our core constituencies: shareholders, customers, employees, and the communities in which we operate and live. State Street has developed clear goals to manage the effect of our operations on the environment, with particular regard to the risks of climate change. We regularly measure our progress against these goals. More broadly, and consistent with our commitment to leadership, we promote awareness of environmental and climate issues with our employees and other stakeholders, while also taking an active part in the public dialogue on issues of environmental sustainability.

Energy Star and ISO 14001 Site Certifications

We believe our environmental practices have a positive impact on the environment and a direct effect on our ability to attract and retain clients, on our efforts to operate cost-effectively, and on our long-term sustainability. We launched an Environmental Management System (EMS) in 2006, and updated it in 2010, to formally monitor and track our direct impact through energy and water usage, paper consumption and recycling. As part of the EMS, State Street has achieved ISO 14001 certification for key locations in London, Dublin, Edinburgh and its headquarters in Boston. We have a carbon emissions reduction plan in place that includes increasing energy efficiency, purchasing green power and reducing energy usage. State Street’s Environmental Sustainability (ES) program is overseen by the executive-level CR Committee and supported by an ES Working Group and the Office of Environmental Sustainability.
